1975/77 Sonor Super Champion / Phonic Restoration

This beautiful natural beech over 7ply beech Sonor Super Champion - Phonic was acquired from the original owner. The drums were completely disassembled and all bearing edges were inspected and recut to the original specification of 45 degrees as needed.

Sizes:

  • 8” X 6” Rack Tom

  • 10” X 7” Rack Tom

  • 12” X 8” Rack Tom

  • 13” X 9” Rack Tom

  • 14” X 14” Floor Tom

  • 18” X 14” Bass Drum‍ ‍

Any missing part were replaced with parts from ST in Germany. The 8” and 10” toms needed some restoration on the beech veneer due to moisture, it was decided to keep the veneer on as best possible to retain originality instead of replacing the veneer. All hardware was cleaned and polished where needed and show amazingly bright with very little to no patina for its age. The bass drum heads have been flipped to allow better placement of the bass drum legs for added stability while playing. All tom heads have been replaced using Remo Vintage Emperor Coated on the batter side and Remo Emperor clear on the Reso side. The floor has a Remo P4 Coated on the Batter side for further dampening. The bass drum has a Remo Powerstroke 3 Clear on the batter side and an Ambassador Fiberskyn on the Reso side with a Kick port installed.

These drums have a wonderful warm sound that Sonor beech shells are known for. The drum heads are tuned to 5ths of the fundamental note of each shell with the same tuning on both the batter and reso heads.
